Return from OnHollywood

SoonR got a Top Innovator Award! Well, I’ve just returned from OnHollywood at the Roosevelt Hotel. What a beautiful old hotel it was with its’ famous Hockney pool and nightclub feel. We met a lot of press there and made some new friends. If you goto FlickR and look for the word OnHollywood, you can see a lot of pictures from the event. We had a wonderful dinner at Dakota (a steakhoue in the hotel) with some of the folks we met.

I think it’s clear from the presentations there and just the overall enthusiasm for the companies that the mobile space is still super hot! What’s coming to your handset is nothing short of amazing. It’s funny though that even with all this activity, some folks were still thinking that the Wireless Carriers were the key. Perhaps they are.

There was also a great many Europeans there. I met with people from Denmark, Finland, Germany, and France. Clearly the mobile phenomenon is something that doesn’t have international boundaries.

Our demo on Thursday morning went very well except for the very end. I couldn’t complete the SoonR Talk call due to the funky signal situation in the hotel. The thing about beautiful old hotels is that they are made with a lot of concrete and steel. I could walk 50 feet in any direction and see drastic changes in the signal quality. I got struck by that phenomenon. If you get a chance, go see the archived video. Click on the “Watch Video link in the page”.

I am always struck by how may demos are not really demos but just a slide deck or a recoding. I think succeeding in showing a live demo really shows the faith you have in the solidity and maturity of the product. SoonR rocks.

P.S. I am the VP of Marketing and one of the Founders of SoonR. I’m also the guy in the video who is talking very fast. ;)
