How to use files on a computer that is turned off.

Active Backup is a bit of an oxymoron as you really can’t used information in a backup unless you restore it first. Right? Wrong! Soonr gives you the ability to work with datafiles in a backup. It doesn’t matter if your computer is offline or turned off since your information is securely available to you anytime.

The new Dashboard (introduced in version 31.) has a section called “Backups”.

Your most active computers and their status are available at a glance.

Listed are the computers associated with your account, with the most active 3 computers visible in the pane. Now at first glance it may not seem like you can do a whole lot with this view, but that would be incorrect. Pass your mouse over any of the computers and you’ll notice a menu appear across the bottom.

Search for file – is the key item here. If you remember the name of the file or any phrase that was in the file, you can locate it in the backup set. Even if the computer is turned off, you can display the file and then choose to comment, print, fax, or create a link to the file to share with others.
Edit with Cloud Drive – you can even make changes a file from another computer and have Soonr automatically sync the file to the original computer. The next time the original computer logs in, Soonr will update the folder with newest changes that you made.
This means that you can use a remote computer to edit that Word document or update the Excel spreadsheet. When you return back to the office or home and login, the file will automatically be pushed from Soonr to your computer. All the changes will be kept intact with full version control.

So that’s how Soonr allows you to use files on a computer that is turned off.

Oh, I should mention the other options on the “Backups” pane. Restore files provides the ability to recover files to another computer. Lost Computer is the first place to visit if you discover that your computer/laptop is lost or stolen. It will remove the stored access rights to your account that is in the lost computer so that unauthorized persons cannot login.

Soonr moves into the Apple top 10

Wow, it’s been great to see the response to Soonr in the Apple app store. We posted just yesterday and we have watched it move from nothing to number 18 and now it has broken the top 10 sitting at #9 currently. We are all watching to see how far it’ll move up today!

Soonr is in the Top 10 in Apple Store!

The Apple application store is a wonderous thing. I remember the “old days” when you have to hire a marketing firm or do a lot of analysis to understand how your product was being received. Companies were created that charged hundreds of thousands of dollars to measure the effectiveness of an offering or a marketing campaign. The folks at Apple have solved a lot of very hard problems with the application store.

When initially introduced some complained that the 30% fee that Apple was charging was a bit much. Clearly these folks didn’t understand what it takes to create:

  • A seamless marketplace
  • Easy installation experience on a handset
  • Commerce engine
  • Alleviate credit responsibilities
  • Creation of a website to sell an application

What Apple has done is truly remarkable. Oh yeah, and our application is free. So we pay Apple 30% of $0.00.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars of value for free. I love the internet and I love the Apple application store.

Thanks to all the users supporting us by trying out Soonr! Let’s see how far we can move up the scale!
